Fragments
When two people are involved in an intense relationship and it ends badly, parts of their soul can splinter and lodge in the other person. From this point on they are bereft of a part of themselves and have to search to be whole again. What if after many years they met that person again and through love, redemption and understanding they could seek to claim a part of their soul back? That which you have lost and gained is what you are now; when part of a city is rebuilt or destroyed, a particular view which has not been seen for many years becomes apparent again...and maybe for the better.
A Dinner to Remember
“Dinner with your mother is such a treacherous affair,” Cecile admits to her partner, Edwin. And thus begins A Dinner to Remember, that awkward time of year when Cecile and Edwin’s mother must try their best to get along. But as the drama unfolds, complications arise: will the two women reconcile their differences, rid themselves of jealousy? Or will the tunes of the past force Edwin to choose one over the other- his mother or his lover? As both women stir memories within Edwin, he realises a remedy for relieving the pain of such predicaments.
A comic, and sometimes surreal, look at the theme of memory and music, A Dinner to Remember reminds us of the therapeutic qualities of song, sound and stage.
The Mirror and the Lantern
The Mirror and the Lantern is an exploration into how we deal with loss. Following the miscarriage of his first child, our nameless protagonist is left alone to come to terms with his emotions. The self deprecating side of his conscience is personified by a daemon who berates the man, whereas the selfless side of his mind, the side devoted to his wife appears in the form of an angel. His inner conflict is resolved by the appearance of a stranger, a nurse, who guides and councils him through his confusion. Contrary to resolution in ‘deus ex machina’, here it is the empathy of another human soul that helps him understand his existential plight, and reminds us that we need not turn to the heavens for solace when it can be found in more earthly domains.
The Call of Cthulhu
Act 1: The Horror in Clay
Set in the nineteen-twenties, a young, sculptor boy from Boston has been having recurring nightmares of a monster on an unworldly island. He creates a bas-relief of it all and seeks help from a professor to discover what kind of archaeological design he has constructed.
Act 2: The Tale of Inspector LegrasseSoon after, the professor attends an archaeological meeting about a statuette of a monster uncovered from a police raid in Mississippi. This results in a couple of stories of a cult worshipping what seems to be the same monster in the boy’s dreams.
Act 3: The Madness at SeaSet at the same time as Act 1. A group of sailors from Western Australia have just survived a small confrontation with pirates and seek refuge on a strange island. Little do they know that this island is the one from the boy’s dreams!
